Your Privacy Matters
PeekProof is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your photos and face data stay on your device. We only collect what's necessary for account features.
What We Collect
- Email address — for account authentication (via Supabase)
- Login timestamps — to help you see when your account was accessed
- Anonymous usage analytics — app launches and feature usage (via TelemetryDeck, no personal data)
We do NOT collect or access your photos, face data, or passcode. These never leave your device.
Camera Access
PeekProof requires camera access to capture photos when your device is unlocked. These photos are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted anywhere. You have full control to delete them at any time.
Face Recognition & Face Data
PeekProof uses face recognition to distinguish you (the device owner) from unauthorized users. Here's exactly how it works:
What We Store
We store facial embeddings — 256-dimensional mathematical vectors (arrays of numbers) — not actual photos or images of your face. These embeddings are generated on-device using Apple's Vision framework and cannot be reverse-engineered back into a face image.
How It's Used
When your device is unlocked, PeekProof captures a photo and generates a facial embedding from it. This embedding is compared against your registered owner embedding to determine if it's you or someone else. The comparison happens entirely on your device.
Where It's Stored
Face embeddings are stored only on your device, within the app's private data container (encrypted at rest by iOS). They are never uploaded to our servers or any third-party service.
Sharing
Your face data is never shared with any third parties. It never leaves your device.
Retention & Deletion
Face embeddings are retained until you choose to delete them. You can delete your face data at any time by using "Re-register Face" in Settings (which deletes existing data before capturing new), or "Delete Account" which removes all data including face embeddings. Face data is also deleted when you uninstall the app.
Notifications
We use local notifications to alert you when a potential snooper is detected. These notifications are processed entirely on your device.
Data Storage
- Photos & face data — stored locally on your device only
- Account data — stored securely on Supabase (encrypted)
- Analytics — processed by TelemetryDeck (privacy-first, no personal identifiers)
When you delete the app, local data is removed. To delete your account and all associated data from our servers, use "Delete Account" in Settings — this permanently removes your captures, settings, face data, and login history from both your device and our servers.
Third Parties
We use trusted services for specific features:
- Supabase — account authentication & login history
- TelemetryDeck — anonymous, privacy-focused analytics
- Apple — Sign In with Apple authentication
These services have their own privacy policies. We never sell or share your personal data for advertising.
